  1. Form (Affirmative)
  • I/You/We/They + base verb: I eat, They study
  • He/She/It + base + s/es: He eats, She goes
  1. Add s or es?
  • Most verbs: +s (play → plays)
  • Verbs ending in o, s, sh, ch, x, z: +es (go → goes, wash → washes)
  • Verbs ending consonant + y: y → ies (study → studies; cry → cries)
  • Vowel + y: +s (play → plays)

  • I/You/We/They: do not (don’t) + base: I don’t eat
  • He/She/It: does not (doesn’t) + base: He doesn’t eat
